as posted by the channelActing Attorney General Todd Blanche on Monday pledged “swift and certain” justice for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting suspect.
“The Department of Justice approaches incidents like this with urgency and clarity of purpose,” he said at a press conference. “Violence has no place in civic life. It cannot and will not be used to disrupt democratic institutions or intimidate those that serve them.”
The suspect, a 31-year-old man from California, was charged with three federal counts, including attempting to assassinate the president of the United States, transporting a firearm across state lines, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
“We are investigating this matter fully,” Mr. Blanche said. “We will apply the law fairly and we will ensure that accountability is swift and certain.”
The acting attorney general also praised the actions of law enforcement for stopping the gunman, particularly the Secret Service agent who was injured in the incident.
“Law enforcement did not fail. They did exactly what they are trained to do,” he said. “The men and women who protected us that night were trained, professional and had an enduring commitment to the rule of law.”
