YouTube Description
as posted by the channelKing Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived at Joint Base Andrews on Monday for a four-day state visit marking America’s 250th anniversary.
It’s their first trip to the U.S. since ascending to the throne and the first by a British monarch since Queen Elizabeth II visited in 2007 to mark the anniversary of the Jamestown settlement.
“The visit will be an opportunity to recognise the shared history of our two nations; the breadth of the economic, security and cultural relationship that has developed since then; and the deep people-to-people connections which unite communities,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
The trip will include meetings with President Trump, an address to Congress, a state banquet, and a visit to New York City to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The U.S. and U.K. have long been close allies — often described as having a “special relationship” — but ties between the two countries are at a low point.
President Trump has repeatedly criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for his refusal to involve Britain in the Iran war — and a majority of the British public now views the U.S. as a negative force in the world.
Nevertheless, President Trump has been complimentary of King Charles, and the visit could help ease recent tensions.
