Trump: "The deal's all signed"

President Trump spoke Monday about the framework for a potential peace deal with Iran that was signed Sunday and said the Strait of Hormuz was now "partially open."

"The deal's all signed and the strait is already partially open," he said ahead of a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France.

"As you know, they're doing a little hunting for a couple of mines that they've already found. But it's essentially — ships are starting to go out now. On Friday, it'll be completely opened."

The president said his administration was getting along with Iran's leaders and lamented that the U.S. resumed its bombing campaign last week in an effort to get the agreement across the finish line.

"I felt badly that we had to go back on the attack for two nights, and I thought a third, but we made it before that happened," he said.

While few details of the memorandum of understanding have been revealed, President Trump said the final deal, which will be worked out over the next 60 days, would ensure Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon.

"Iran will not have a nuclear weapon," he said. "They've fully agreed to that, with strong policing powers."

He said the memorandum will be released "sometime after Friday," following a public signing ceremony in which Vice President JD Vance is expected to participate.
