0:31Now PlayingPresident Trump expressed disappointment with the Federal Reserve's decision to hold interest rates steady on Wednesday but took a much softer tone than he did when Jerome Powell was at the helm of the central bank.
"It's alright, whatever," he told reporters after landing in Paris shortly after the rate decision, which was made under his handpicked new Fed chair, Kevin Warsh.
"It could happen," he added on the prospect of rate hikes later in the year. "It's just hard to believe. It just keeps the country down. It's so unusual. But we have a very good guy over there now, so I'm guided by what he wants."
The president had spent the first 18 months of his term railing against the central bank and Mr. Powell in an attempt to get policymakers to lower rates.
His Justice Department even launched a criminal investigation into Mr. Powell, and he sought to fire Lisa Cook as a Fed governor as part of the pressure campaign, though that effort was halted by the courts.
