2:54Now PlayingRep. Joseph Morelle (NY), the top Democrat on the House panel that oversees federal elections, sharply criticized President Trump's primetime address Thursday night on election integrity.
"It's the rantings of a pathetic, unserious person," he told C-SPAN following the address. "The president knows virtually nothing about the American election system."
Rep. Morelle, the ranking member of the Administration Committee, argued the president was using claims of "shocking vulnerabilities" in the U.S. election system as a pretext to challenge the results of the November midterm elections.
"This is a pretext for the president, I think, calling into dispute the 2026 elections," he said. "That is what he's trying to do, sow so much confusion about it that he can use extraordinary powers to try to take the vote away from the American people. Why? Because I think he fears the verdict of the American people."
