Trump on recent cyberattacks: "Minnesota is behind it"

President Trump told reporters at the Cabinet meeting Friday that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), not Iran, was behind the recent cyberattacks on water systems in Minnesota.

"You know who's behind it? Minnesota, because they're grossly incompetent," he said. "I think the governor is behind it, I don't think there was an Iranian cyberattack."

Earlier this week, several states, including 30 water systems in Minnesota, were hit by cyberattacks as hackers attempted to degrade water infrastructure.

President Trump added that Minnesota "ought to get its act together," calling it "one of the worst run states."

The president's claim comes as multiple media outlets have reported that investigators and U.S. officials suspect Iran was behind the attacks.

Gov. Walz shot back in a post on X, "Trump knows exactly who is responsible for this attack, and knows that other states were hit too. This is what modern warfare looks like, and it further illustrates there’s no plan to win a war with Iran."

"DOGE took an axe to CISA and left the U.S. exposed to cyber attacks. Thankfully, our experts in Minnesota were able to identify the vulnerability quickly and work with local communities to stop it," he added.
