1:01Now PlayingSpeaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said Tuesday he was "very bullish" about Republicans' prospects in November, saying his party was primed to buck the historical trend of the president's party losing seats in the midterms.
"We have to defy history," he said. "Only twice in 90 years has a sitting president picked up seats for his party in that first two-year cycle. But it's going to happen this year."
The speaker, who was campaigning with Rep. Tom Barrett (R-MI) in Michigan, called it a "contrast election."
"A contrast between common sense, represented by a guy like Tom Barrett, and crazy. And that's what his opponent represents," he told reporters.
