1:31Now PlayingRep. Don Bacon (R-NE) on Thursday criticized elements of the Republican Party that he said have become “hostile” to immigration, warning that the stance could hurt the United States in an increasingly competitive technological landscape.
“This is a critique to my party, in some parts of my party, they have become hostile to immigration,” he said at an AI expo Thursday. “We should find ways to bring in the world’s best to help us with quantum computing, you name it.”
The Nebraska Republican also warned that without the “right immigration,” the U.S. risks falling behind globally, arguing that attracting top talent from around the world is critical to maintaining the country’s technological and economic competitiveness.
“They don’t see the numbers,” he said of some members of his party. “The numbers are, we’re a declining country without the right immigration.”
