“This is Jim Crow 2.0…The number of African Americans that have been eliminated from key positions…it’s sick.”
Gov. Newsom specifically pointed to Jeff Landry and Louisiana’s efforts to redraw its congressional map following a Supreme Court decision — a move critics argue could eliminate a significant share of the state’s majority-Black congressional districts.
“I feel deep responsibility to do something about this. Nothing to do with me as governor, just as a human being.”
