"Sometimes, I get frustrated with Susan Collins. I almost wish that she was more partisan," the Vice President said. "But the thing I love about Susan Collins is that she is independent because Maine is an independent state."
"Frankly, if she was as partisan as I sometimes wish that she was, she would not be a good fit for the people of Maine," Vice President Vance said.
Vice President Vance said the Maine Republican could not attend the rally for fear of missing votes in the Senate on Wednesday.
Sen. Collins, a long-time Republican representing Maine, is the only GOP elected official statewide office in Maine and the only Republican member of Congress from any New England state. She is set to face a tight re-election battle this November against presumptive Democratic nominee Graham Platner.
