Iran is far more militarily prepared now than during the earlier 12-day war. After initial setbacks caused by insider leaks, cyberattacks, and sabotage, Iran purged suspected infiltrators, hardened defenses, fixed radar and air-defense gaps, and improved rapid response.

Surprise is largely gone. Iran now anticipates the likely shape of future attacks, has mitigated cyber vulnerabilities, and is actively hunting internal threats, making covert or insider-style operations far less likely.

Offensive capabilities have grown. Missile production was protected even during earlier fighting and has likely accelerated since, increasing the effectiveness and volume of strikes Iran could launch. Any renewed conflict would be far more painful for Israel and potentially for U.S. forces.

Limited strikes or leadership capture are seen as nearly impossible. Unlike cases such as Venezuela, Iran’s leadership is well protected, highly cautious, and prepared for decapitation attempts. Special operations against top leaders are viewed as extremely low-probability and high-risk.

Risk of regional escalation exists. If Iran successfully inflicts serious damage on Israel, dormant proxies like Hezbollah or the Houthis could re-engage. Turkey could also opportunistically exploit instability, though nuclear escalation is viewed as the most serious danger.
