Starkey GRILLS Reform UK board member over Farage and party professionalism | David Starkey Talks

Before I set off for the Reform UK party conference, I decided to catch up once again with Gawain Towler, who has just been appointed to the party's board. As Reform continues to entrench its polling lead, and the Labour Party's disarray makes an early election seem more and more likely, I wanted to grill Gawain on the party's development and professionalisation. In particular, I wanted to understand how Nigel Farage is going to cope with the enormous increase in scrutiny he is going to have to endure as he nears power. We know the forces of the Blob will seek to disrupt and oppose Reform's agenda wherever possible, but has Nigel himself shown enough determination to get to grips with Parliament and the uses of Parliament? Has he made sure to get properly across his brief? A bruising encounter with US Democrats in the House of Representatives might suggest not. What's more, has Nigel gotten better at dealing with the kind of serious, heavyweight people he will need around him to push through the enormous changes this country requires, without things descending into quarrels and acrimony? I think Gawain, who has known Nigel for decades, provides the most honest answers to these questions that you will hear from any Reform member.
