His mentor and the great champion of prioritising human rights law over actual English law is Tom Bingham, and he was absolutely explicit about its purpose.
In a lecture in Australia he said outright that human rights law is “undemocratic”, “counter-majoritarian”, and designed to prioritise the minority over the majority.
