THE CASE:
Dustin Duren, 38, is charged with second-degree murder, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, and child endangerment in the shooting death of Caitlyn Naffziger, 31, the mother of his two children.
WHAT HAPPENED:
On February 29, 2024, police responded to an apartment on Main Street in Berlin, NH, where they found Naffziger dead from a single gunshot wound to the head. Duren had allegedly fled the scene with the couple’s two daughters, ages 4 and 1, triggering an Amber Alert on March 1, 2024.
THE ARREST:
Approximately 170 miles away in Keene, NH, a civilian spotted Duren’s Subaru in an Applebee’s parking lot and called police. Duren was arrested on March 1, 2024, and both children were found safe and unharmed.
THE DEFENSE:
Duren’s attorneys plan to argue self-defense, claiming he shot Naffziger because he believed she was attempting to kidnap their children. According to court documents, Duren allegedly admitted to killing Naffziger during a police interview.
