The lead detective didn't photograph where he found it. Didn't log it. Didn't document it in his report. He took it to his personal office, pulled the SD card, viewed it on his own computer, then stuck the camera in an untaped envelope in his office cabinet — where it sat, unlogged, for over a year. Officers on scene were told to turn off their body cameras, in direct violation of Sheriff's Office policy. And when the detective testified about what he saw on that memory card, a cybersecurity expert took the stand and explained that the folder structure and video lengths he described are physically impossible for that camera to produce.
