In April 2020, during the pandemic, Tory and Megan Thee Stallion were speculated to be dating based on social media posts. A sudden turn of events took place on July 12, when Tory allegedly shot Megan in her foot as they left a party, which he denied. Tory was arrested for concealed firearm possession while Megan was hospitalized. Megan officially revealed on August 20, 2020, that Tory shot her and accused him of spreading misinformation about the case. This erupted into a feud and legal battle, as Tory continued to allude to the incident in his music. He was eventually charged and faced up to 22 years in prison. His bail was set at $190,000 then increased to $250,000. Following a violation of Megan's restraining order, Tory was put under house arrest. The trial began in December, garnering immense public attention. One key piece was a text message from Tory to Megan expressing his remorse over the incident; he claimed he was too drunk. Megan and Kelsey's testimonies were particularly incriminating for Tory.
