Billy McFarland shared a harrowing experience he endured while imprisoned at the Brooklyn Detention Center. McFarland recounted an incident where a new inmate was targeted. The man, believed to be a drug addict, paid for protection but was subsequently assaulted by the very person he paid. McFarland and other inmates could hear the victim's screams and cries from the adjacent cell. Despite the availability of emergency buttons, McFarland's cellmate warned against pressing them, fearing potential repercussions and worsening their own conditions. The following morning, the victim managed to get his cell changed, but retribution was swift. The man who assaulted him slashed him with a razor blade out of embarrassment once the cell doors opened the next day. Both involved inmates were subsequently removed from the facility, and McFarland never saw them again.
