3:50Now PlayingMelati Wijsen grew up in the lush paradise of Bali. Surrounded by this immense natural beauty, she made a connection with the earth and vowed to care for it always. However, there was one major threat to her beautiful home: plastic.
Together with her sister Isabel, Melati set out to ban single-use plastic bags in Bali. They protested in the streets, staged hunger strikes, petitioned their government and rallied people around a cause that everyone could care about. In the years since, Isabel and Melati also founded Youthtopia, a peer to peer program which helps empower young people by giving them the tools and support they need to organize around a cause. Melati Wijsen is #SolvingIt in Bali and teaching others around the world how to do the same.
