- Tolerance to Stimulants?:

Bodies and brains adjust to some medications be developing tolerance, meaning that a larger dose is required to elicit equivalent effects. Concern has been raised that chronic use of stimulants might cause a compensatory up-regulation, or greater presence of efficacy, of the dopamine transporter, as suggested by one study.

But other research has yielded conflicting results. Addiction specialists have claimed that everyone develops tolerance to stimulants, whereas ADHD experts have tended to assert the opposite - that after initial titration, most individuals find a dose that works for them, and it keeps working over time. My own clinical experience conforms much more closely to what the ADHD experts predict.
