Hypnosis gets a bad rap - of smarmy guys dressed in black swinging watches in front of a subject's eyes to get them to perform unusual acts. But hypnosis, consisting of extreme focus, detachment from other stimuli, and cognitive flexibility has been shown to be an effective medical and psychiatric technique. In fact the first study in all of medicine using placebo/sham treatments and subjects blinded to their treatment status was conducted on hypnosis. Research on ADHD and hypnosis is limited, but indicates that it could be as helpful as CBT treatment, with the benefits being even more durable.
