True freedom comes when you know who you are in Christ—and who you are not after the flesh. In the twentieth and final episode of Identity Theft, Duane Sheriff contrasts our new identity in Christ with the weakness of living after the flesh. Drawing from Romans 8, Isaiah 51, John 15, Corinthians, and Philippians, he explains that while believers are no longer in the flesh, they can still choose to walk after the flesh—and that choice produces death in the form of discouragement, depression, and unfruitfulness. Scripture reminds us that without God we can do nothing, have nothing, know nothing, and are nothing—but the good news is we are not without Him.
Through Christ, believers are supplied, strengthened, taught, and transformed by grace. While the world promotes pride and self-reliance, true fulfillment flows from dependence on God. Humility comes from remembering the pit we were rescued from, while confidence comes from knowing the rock we were cut from.
