Moscow calls the fighter saboteurs backed by Kyiv who have disguised themselves as Russian police officers.
Today, Moscow advised residents in Belgorod to be on the look out for law enforcement imposters and to shoot without warning.
It is impossible to verify Russia's claim. The Free Russia Legion is a volunteer unit, created last year to enable Russians opposed to the Kremlin's war to take up arms alongside Ukrainians.
That means Belgorod could be a new chapter in this war marked by Russian-on-Russian attacks.
