8:03Now PlayingEU members have reached a deal on targets for the supply of critical minerals that are key for chip and EV battery production. The Critical Raw Materials Act aims to reduce the bloc’s reliance on third countries – primarily China – and puts targets on local extraction, recycling, and processing of 16 critical minerals and rare earths. Among its goal: Extracting 10% of its annual needs locally. Speaking to DW Business, Reinhilde Veugelers, Senior Fellow at the independent Bruegel think tank says: It’s not only about securing supplies but doing it at a reasonable price.
