The court ruled the proposal unconstitutional, with serious consequences for the party and its leader. Pita Limjaroenrat led the Move Forward party to a popular victory in last year's elections, but he was blocked from forming a government. He and his party have now been banned from politics for a decade. Thailand has some of the strictest royal defamation laws in the world.
