10:49Now PlayingTurkey's main opposition party, the Republican People's Party, or CHP, is facing a widening crackdown. In March, Istanbul's mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu, was arrested and suspended from office over corruption allegations. Imamoglu's arrest triggered a wave of mass protests. Since then, more than a dozen other CHP mayors and hundreds of their staff have been detained or jailed over similar allegations. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his government reject claims that the arrests are politically motivated.
