Three seats are up for election on Nov. 3 and each candidate believes they are the best person for the job.
This week Doug Burke, Kirk Olsen, Keith Smith, Emily Thomas and Nicole Weight agreed to participate in a debate sponsored by EastIdahoNews.com and hosted by Mark Richardson.
The candidates were each asked the following questions and given 90 seconds to respond:
1. The city of Rigby is going through a difficult decision whether to maintain the city police department or cut costs and contract the service out to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. If you are elected, how would you vote on this decision?
2. In addition to the city police, Rigby is looking at updating the city sewer system. What projects do you see the city needing to undertake and where would the funding come from?
3: Everyone talks about bringing good, high paying jobs into the city. What are you willing to do and how far are you willing to go to attract them?
The candidates were also allowed sixty seconds to give a closing statement.
