Sen. Bernie Sanders’ Wife: ‘He’s in it to win it’

IDAHO FALLS – Jane Sanders says her husband, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, has a bold vision for the future and she’s optimistic he will win the Idaho Democratic caucus Tuesday.

During a phone interview Monday afternoon, Jane Sanders told EastIdahoNews.com that Sen. Sanders has a record of achievements that have drawn voters to him.

“There’s a lot of working class Republicans and Democrats that feel they’re not getting a fair shake,” Jane Sanders said. “They’ve worked all their lives and they want to have their children and grandchildren do better.”

Sen. Sanders has a following in east Idaho. Thousands attended a rally at Skyline High School Friday, where the presidential hopeful shared his vision for affordable healthcare and free college education for everyone.

“We always knew that his ideas would resonate because they are the ideas that help the middle class and young people concerned about the future,” Jane said.

Even though Idaho is a conservative state that tends to vote Republican, Jane believes Sen. Sanders platform is appealing to everyone – regardless of political party.

“He’s very frugal and he’s talking about not expanding the federal government but reprioritizing the federal government to work on behalf of the working people of America,” Jane said.

Jane admits she was reticent when her husband told her he wanted to run for president, but she says she’s now “fully on board” with his decision.

“We talked about what was at stake and we are in danger of losing our democracy as fewer and fewer people are making more and more decisions,” Jane said. “You have to make a decision – show up or give up.”

Jane says her husband has no intention of dropping out of the race and, when asked if he would consider being Hillary Clinton’s vice-president, she says they’ve never thought about the idea.

“(It’s) not on the table,” Jane said, “He’s in it to win it…and the map is looking better and better.”
