0:55Now PlayingREXBURG -- Surveillance video obtained by EastIdahoNews.com shows a police pursuit ending Thursday afternoon with a massive crash.
The video, recorded by a camera attached to a Main St. business, shows the crash ending around 2:30 p.m.
Travis Castro, 30, was allegedly driving a stolen white pick-up truck belonging HK Contractors, Inc., in Idaho Falls.
Rexburg Police Capt. Randy Lewis says his officers were notified by Madison County Dispatch that Fremont Sheriff deputies were pursuing a vehicle.
Lewis says Castro entered Rexburg driving 50 mph on side streets. Police had him cornered at JB’s Restaurant on West Main Street, but he got away after crashing into a shed.
Six cars were damaged when Castro plowed through the intersection at Main and Center Street. A four-wheeler, in the back of the truck Castro was driving, was thrown onto the road during the crash.
Police say Castro was dressed as a woman when the crash occurred and a black wig was spotted on the road in the intersection. He was taken to Madison Memorial Hospital but released and booked into the Madison County Jail around 10 p.m. Thursday on felony eluding and felony possession of a controlled substance charges.
A woman and a child involved in the crash were also taken to Madison Memorial Hospital. Their conditions are unknown.
In addition to the two felonies, Castro is being held on three misdemeanor warrants out of Bonneville County and a felony warrant for grand theft. The felony warrant stemmed from an unrelated Idaho Falls Police theft of a vehicle case from May.
Police say Castro is a suspect in a Guns N Gear burglary that occurred Tuesday morning in Idaho Falls. Detectives recovered four guns from the truck which were identified as being stolen from Guns N Gear. Charges are pending a prosecutor review.
