Allahabad High Court issues notice to UP govt in Akanksha’s mother’s plea seeking CBI probe

Bhojpuri actress Akanksha Dubey allegedly died by suicide in Varanasi earlier this year. Over 6 months after her death, the actress’ mother Madhu Dubey has reportedly moved the Allahabad High Court seeking a probe into the matter by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). According to reports, a bench of justices heard the arguments Madhu’s advocate and issued a notice to the UP government. Her petition claims that the investigation of the case is tainted and there is a real likelihood of justice being deflected. She has also alleged several irregularities in the probe being conducted by the UP Police alleging that it is working in collusion with the criminals/culprits. The petition reportedly raises strong doubts on the version of the UP Police that the actress died by suicide and hints at rape. Akanksha’s mother has also claimed that relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code have not been added in the charge sheet despite a finding in the Forensic Science Laboratory report confirming the presence of sperm in the vaginal slide & vaginal swab stick of the deceased as well as her undergarments. Madhu’s petition further claims that the DNA test of the accused/suspected person is also not available on record, and no effective approach is being made to match the DNA test outcome of semen/sperm with the suspected blood sample. Notably in April, two accused, Samar Singh (singer by profession) and Sanjay Singh (business partner of Samar Singh) were arrested by the UP Police and the latter was released on bail.
