Actress Mousumi Nayak arrested for blackmailing & denigrating the image of a writer, state reports

Odia actress Mousumi Nayak was reportedly arrested by the Odisha Police on charges of blackmailing and denigrating the public image of a writer. According to reports, the actress had first lodged a police complaint against a writer named Banasmita alleging that she had invested money in stock markets through her. However, Banasmita was repaying Mousumi’s money. After a few days, Mousumi even withdrew her complaint following the writer’s ‘assurance’ to return the money. But she went on to lodge another complaint against Banasmita alleging that she was forcing her to get into escort service. The 37-year-old actress also claimed that the writer had threatened her when she sought her money back. Amid all this, there are reports stating that Banasmita has now moved the High Court of Orissa on the plea that Mousumi had hampered her social prestige by leveling false allegations against her. Reportedly, she also mentioned that Mousumi’s allegations aimed at extracting money from her. The actress was produced in a local court and later sent in judicial custody after the police registered a case against her under Sections 385 (extortion), 294 (obscene acts), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 507 (Criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the Indian Penal Code as per the court order. Mousumi Nayak is known for her work in Odiya and Telugu films.
