4:33Now PlayingWorld leaders, typically those who have enjoyed near autocratic rule, are now using the same talking points as Donald Trump by claiming that the elections in their countries were fraudulent and that everything is unfair. Trump showed them how to do it, and now all of the whiny, wannabe dictators are trying the same thing. Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

Donald Trump's talking points about the 2020 election somehow being stolen from him have apparently caught the attention of despots from across the globe. What we've seen in just the last few weeks is other leaders who were terrified of losing power, essentially repeat the exact same lines as Donald Trump. Here's just a couple. We are witnessing the greatest election fraud in the history of the country, in my opinion, and the history of any democracy that came from former Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Then of course, we have a statement from Kiko, Fujimori of Peru who recently lost her election that said, uh, the election will be flipped. Dear
Friends sounds familiar, right?
I mean, if I had told you that Donald Trump made those comments, you would say, yeah, of course he did, but we're seeing other former world leaders at this point, try to use those exact same talking points because they were so terrified of losing power. And in fact, they did lose power and as the Atlantic points out, there's a good reason. These individuals were terrified of losing power. Uh, Netanyahu of course, has been indicted for fraud and corruption. So there's a chance he could be heading off to jail. Uh, Kiko Fujimori is actually awaiting trial for misuse of political contributions. So both of these other leaders, former leaders using these talking points much like Donald Trump or afraid of what's going to happen to them in their private lives. Now that they do not have the power, the state backed power to fight off all of the charges against them. Exactly like Donald Trump. But this is terrifying folks. You know, we think it's bad.
Obviously here in the United States, we have
Republican controlled states doing these ballot audits, you know, Republican legislatures, trying to force these things, doing whatever they can to pretend that the election was some cow stuff somehow stolen, but we have to kind of trust our systems
Here in the United States, right? We
Have to trust that the courts
That Republicans have packed are going to do the right thing that other states, even if they're controlled by Republicans are going to do the right thing. There's a lot of, you know, safeguards that aren't really as safe as they once were. But we, we do have systems in place to try to prevent elections from being stolen based on fraudulent claims from a past leader, I don't know how strong these systems are in other countries. Obviously I do not think either the Israeli election or the election in Peru is going to be overturned. Uh, nobody to think that,
But what happens when other countries little less stable than these other countries start making the same claims? What happens if it's an ally of the
United States, we need something from them.
And they come whining to us saying our election was stolen. They're about to put a fraudulent leader in place. Oh, gee, I wonder what the United States would do. Then
We know exactly
What the United States would do at that point, because we have seen what the United States does at that point. That's where this becomes so terrifying. Donald Trump gave these individuals the blueprint on how to challenge the elections and get the public behind you on it.
And having the public behind you is one thing. What happens when these depose leaders get a world global,
Super, a super power behind them to back up these claims and perhaps overthrow the newcomer
To reinstate the one who lost power. We have seen
It happen in recent us history.
And that is why it is so terrifying to hear these former leaders making these claims today. They got it from Trump
And they're hoping that maybe somebody else is going to step in and make them president
Or leader or prime minister or whatever it is once more.
