Recently Republican representative Lauren Boebert was taken to task for yet another idiotic comment that she made this time, claiming that liberals were somehow legalizing, knowingly spreading HIV
To other people.
Lauren Bovert made the claim, the Democrats across the country, although she didn't give any specific examples and get to that in a minute, uh, that somehow they're legalizing intentionally giving somebody HIV.
Now,
The fact checkers were quick to jump on this and explain that no, that's literally not happening anywhere in the United States. What is happening in some states and has been happening for quite some time is that they're lowering the penalty. Um, I think about 20 states ish have changed the sentencing laws for knowingly infecting somebody with HIV. And by the way, that includes both democratic run states and Republican states. So it's kind of a bipartisan thing taking place across the United States. Um, whether or not you agree with it, that's a debate for a different day. I don't know that I agree with reducing the sentences for knowingly spreading HIV to individuals. They've also reclassified in certain states, uh, what HIV is, you know, does it fall under laws of poisoning individuals intentionally they've removed it from that. It's still in most areas of the country, red or blue states alike, uh, comes with
A lofty jail sentence either in a local county jails or prison. So that's, what's actually happening in the United States, but nowhere
Are they making it legal to knowingly give somebody HIV, the fact checkers, uh, especially those over at CNN, they reached out to Lauren Bover. They said, Hey, um, w wait, where's this happening? What's going on? She didn't respond.
She didn't give them an answer.
So, so this, this Republican member of Congress literally makes something up just to get stupid people in a frenzy and then refuses to elaborate on it. Because of course she can't elaborate on it cause there's no facts to back up. The stupid thing that she said, this is what we're dealing with on the other side, folks, this is why Republicans end up being successful. And of course, why Republican conservative media is so successful. They don't have to have fact checkers. They don't have to do research. They can just make up whatever the hell they want to make up. And they know that the idiots who believe them are going to continue believe them. And they're not going to believe the fact checkers. That's how dangerous this disconnect is from reality
Here in the United States. And I'm not
Saying that Democrats liberals don't engage in some kind of, you know, reality denial on their side too. We've seen it, but we've never seen it at the levels that we see it over on the Republican side, are these people actively
Chase the lies. That's
What they want to believe in. They're actively running away from reality refusing to accept a fact as a fact, and instead want to go with these crazy fantasies from people like Lauren Bovert or people like Marjorie Taylor green
Or Matt gates. That's what this country is quickly becoming and it's dangerous, but it's also one of the reasons by the way that we do what we do, because we
Have to go out there and we have to call this stuff out every single day, it gets exhausting. It really does, but if we can help to educate people, if we can help to
Spread truth instead of fantasy, then it's a job well done. Because even if we only change the minds of a couple people, then it's worth it
Because there is so much political poison
Coming out of the right wing today. And every single day that this really is a full-time job, keeping them, or at least trying to expose all the poison they're putting out there in this country.
