Trump Fleeces Donors By Promising Reward That Never Happened

Prior to his recent appearance in New Orleans a few weeks ago, Donald Trump urged supporters to send him money, and in exchange one donor would be selected to be flown down to have dinner with the twice impeached former President. But the event came and went, and no winner was ever selected. This may not be "illegal", but it is certainly unethical and worthy of a look by the FEC. Farron Cousins explains what happened.

Donald Trump is no stranger to fleeing his own supporters. Right? In fact, I mean, just in the past week, he's sent out requests for them to give me money so I can finish building Trump force one because my current plane is falling apart. But even before that, he's run into multiple different problems with his fundraising schemes, including the one where they had to refund millions of dollars. Because of course they had, uh, auto checked monthly donation for a bunch of people who didn't wanna give monthly donations. They didn't wanna have it over as a recurring payment. And they apparently didn't have a choice. So the campaign had to refund all their money, but now there's another scandal. It has emerged. And it appears that Donald Trump, prior to his recent appearance in new Orleans had sent out requests to his small donors saying, Hey, I'm gonna be in new Orleans and I want you to come with me and I'm gonna pay for your flight pay for the accommodations. And you one lucky donor is going to have dinner with me, Donald Trump himself, but you gotta donate to get into the, you know, contest, I guess you would call it. But after they got donations, Trump went to new Orleans, he talked to his donors and then he left. There was no winner. Nobody was selected. He solicited donations based on a contest that apparently they didn't even run.

Now, I spent a long time trying to go through campaign finance laws to find out if this is in fact illegal. And apparently it's a, a bit of a gray area, you know, it's not quite illegal, but it's also not exactly legal, right? Like you can't raise money saying that basically we're going to have a raffle and then not hold the raffle. People gave the money to you based on this raffle like, guess again, we'll call it and then you didn't even hold it. So you did raise money off of false pretenses, but really, I mean, what kind of a prize is that you wanna sit with a twice impeached president, watch him struggle to chew his well done steak slathered and catch up. I mean, Hey, to each their own, right? But if you ask me not having to do that is probably the biggest prize ever. However, the campaign or his political action committee that was raising the money, came out and uh, basically told us like, oops, we just totally forgot. Uh we'll we'll get to them later. So yeah, here's what they said. This is from Trump spokesman, Tyler, bud DAWI who says president Trump has awarded more than 100 prizes to contest winners across America. Really? You're saying that like, he's a radio station, like who giving out tons of prizes, just call in, be caller 50 right

Now and tell us the song of the day. But due to an administrative error in this individual circumstance, the contest winner was not properly notified for last weekend's event. In new Orleans, a substitute prize will be given to the winner instead, and there there's where you kind of get yourself out of legal problems, right? If you do in fact, give somebody a prize, then you probably escape any kind of like criminal activity for raising money, all false pretenses. But again, campaign finance laws, super weird, super vague, and the written that way to fit. Obviously the people raising money, which is a shame, but could still be illegal. Maybe it's totally legal. Who knows? Right. All we know is that if you give money to Donald Trump, don't expect anything in return because this man time after time, after time has screwed over his small money donors. And I don't see any indication that that's gonna stop anytime soon.
