5:31Now PlayingIn a recent profile of Madison Cawthorn's 2020 supporters for The Daily Beast, many of his former voters now believe that the freshman Congressman has jumped the shark, with one going as far as to say that he has become "unscrewed." But the truth is that Cawthorn has been this way the whole time, the only difference is that people are starting to pay attention now. Farron Cousins explains what's happening and what it means for Cawthorn's reelection chances.

Madison Cawthorn appears to be in a little bit more trouble than really any other incumbent Republican seeking reelection for the house of representatives. Now that's a lot of caveats, cuz there are Republicans in bigger trouble than Cawthorn. But in terms of house races, Cawthorn might be facing the biggest uphill battle. Not only did a judge this week revive the challenge to call Thorn's ability to even be on the ballot. But he also skipped a debate on Monday night where the other candidates on stage seven of them actually, uh, didn't hesitate to call out call Thorn's behavior and according to a new by the daily beast, a lot of the voters in cath thorns district, the 11th district of North Carolina are just plain sick of him, tired of his antics and ready to see somebody else take his place. We read a couple of quotes from some of the people, the daily beast talk to at first I thought it was the liberal media ganging up on him. Now I'm thinking he's not cut out for it. Pretty strong. Here's another one. This is from Richard Bennett of Brevard. He says he's a little disappointed in Cawthorn. He seems to have come unscrewed.
He, he seems to have come unscrewed because yeah. Before he ran for office, the dude was known as a straight shooter. Really normal guy, right? No, no. He didn't come unscrewed. What happened is that people actually finally started paying attention during his campaign. Of course in 2020 Madison. Cawthorn not only lied about being accepted to the Naval academy, which he was not. He also lied about the very accident that left him paralyzed. I mean, these are verifiable things like it's not like you have to do a lot of digging in order to get to the truth about these things. And he just flat out lied about these things. And then of course you have his behavior. You have the recent admission that, yeah, there's these big cocaine fueled sex ORs with, with Republicans. So maybe that's a thing maybe not. Uh, but that of course left a sour taste in the mouths of most conservatives in the establishment and in DC and to some of them, including Tom Tillis, the sitting Republican Senator in North Carolina came out and actually endorsed one of call Thorn's many opponents. So here's the thing. The voters are getting sick of him.
Republicans in DC are sick of him scandal after scandal problem after idiotic statement after idiotic statement. So is Callthorne finished probably not. As I mentioned, seven other Republicans are primary in this guy and in North Carolina, you have to hit at least 31% to become the nominee. If you do not hit that 31%, it goes to a runoff with of course the top two candidates Callthorne is likely, I mean 99% likely to be one of those top two candidates. Because of course all of the people who do not like him are going to end up voting for one of these other people. But because there are so many that is going to dilute the vote, but that would then force call thorn into a runoff with one of these primary opponents. And that could be big problems for him. And of course, all of this is assuming that Kath thorn even survives the legal challenge and is even allowed to be on the ballot.
Because if that doesn't happen, all of this is pointless. Nothing I'm saying right now matters because Kath thorn won't even be able to run for office ever again. But here's another a thing. And I think this is fairly important too. Even if Callthorne doesn't win, it's not like we're gonna get a MIT Romney type Republican in there. Who's not crazy. Just conservative. No, we're probably gonna get somebody just as bad. And then we have to spend the next two years talking about how horrible this into vigil is, but Hey, in terms of bad, does it really get any worse than Madison Callthorne like, is that 11th district gonna send us somebody worse than Callthorne? I think the chances of that are pretty slim. Let's be honest. There's a couple of 'em in that primary field. So even if we get rid of 'em, it's not like we're, we're gonna replace 'em with somebody who's gonna come into DC and say, you know what? We need universal healthcare. We need to raise taxes on the rich that ain't happening.
