Ron DeSantis Accused Of Using Illegal Foreign Money To Fund Campaign

A new complaint filed with the FEC alleges that Ron DeSantis has been using illegal foreign contributions from a corporation in Canada to fund multiple campaigns that he has run, including his two gubernatorial bids and his presidential bid. This is the second complaint filed in relation to DeSantis' campaign finance efforts, and he was hit with another complaint previously that accused him of illegally funneling money from his state PAC to his federal PAC, which is illegal. Poor Ron DeSantis just can't seem to get it right, can he? Folks, this week, Ron DeSantis campaign was hit with yet another F E C Federal Elections Commission complaint alleging that DeSantis campaign has been taking illegal contributions from foreign corporations. The foreign corporation in question is Canadian Financial Services, E C N Capital. And according to a complaint from the campaign Legal Center, the C L C, they say that this Canadian capital firm has been pouring money into DeSantis campaign since 2018. So they funded his first gubernatorial run, they funded his second gubernatorial run. Now some of that money might be bleeding over into his presidential campaign. And if so, that is 100% illegal according to the Federal Elections Campaign Act, a federal law that says under no circumstances can a local campaign, a state campaign, or a federal campaign, except any money or anything of value from any foreign entity, be it a corporation or a human being.

And according to the campaign, financial disclosures seems like this is an open and shut case, right? I mean, it's right there in black and white that this capital firm gave money to DeSantis. Like that part's not disputable. So why did a complaint have to be filed by an outside group to begin with? Every person running for office and every person holding office is required to file these campaign financial disclosures. They've gotta file their personal financial disclosures, all of that, and DeSantis did, right? There's no question that this man turned in his paperwork, okay? I'm not accusing him of not turning it in. The question is, what's the point of turning it in if we don't have a government agency that's actually going through it? Why does it have to be these outside groups like the Campaign Legal Center, which does great work. I love them. They're great, but they shouldn't even have to exist because we should have the agency receiving the financial information doing what the campaign legal center is doing. But they're not. You would think somebody looking through it would be like, okay, here's DeSantis says, wait a minute, this company says it's in Canada. That's not legal. But no, he turns it in and they're just like, all right, thanks man. Appreciate it. Yeah, we're just gonna file that right over there. That's that's totally good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever, how dysfunctional is our government that we have to

Have, have government watchdog organizations in this country? But that's the sad reality in which we live. If they aren't out there, these independent groups, like campaign leaders said, if they're not doing the work, if they're not the ones combing through the, the financial filings, nobody will. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics and Washington Crew, another great group that does this. But the point is, this is actually DeSantis second complaint that he has received. He has also been accused in a separate complaint, also filed by the clc, that he funneled $80 million from his state political Action committee into his federal super pac, which is also illegal. And so far nothing's happened with that complaint at all. So here we have these instances where you can see the money being transferred in black and white. It's on the disclosure forms and nothing's getting done. And here's the kicker. Even if DeSantis, if they do an investigation, they come back and they say, holy crap, yeah, this dude broke the law. Do you know what's gonna happen to him? Nothing. Nothing. He'll pay the money back, or he'll pay a small fine and then he'll keep on keeping on. That's it. Our campaign finance laws here in the United States are a joke, but the even bigger joke are the agencies that are supposed to be looking to make sure candidates are doing the right thing, because clearly they are the ones not doing their jobs.
