as posted by the channelBack in the 5th century, the church was embroiled in debates over the nature of Christ. Two figures rose to the forefront of the debate: St. Cyril of Alexandria and Nestorius. The animating cause of the debate was whether it's right to call Mary the Mother of God.
Over the years, the nuances of Nestorius's and Cyril's thoughts have often been lost. Let me be clear: this video is not a historical reconstruction of Nestorius's position. This video is a look at St. Cyril's Christology, and even more so, an examination of what he felt was at stake in getting the incarnation right and why mystery plays such an important role in that.
In the course of the video, I talk about how the incarnation affects our soteriology, epistemology, and anthropology.
