In the 5th century, St. Cyril of Alexandria arose as one of the foremost defenders of orthodox Christology. Today, he's primarily remembered for his debates against Nestorius, but for St. Cyril, Christology was not just an isolated piece of theology. It was deeply interconnected to soteriology. In other words, having a correct view of who Christ is leads to a correct view of how we're saved.

Through his insights into Christology, I came across his beautiful vision of what Jesus's famous words, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" mean. That's what we'll be covering in this video, and as you'll see, it has important ramifications for how we understand the atonement.
