Donald Trump has appointed Bill Pulte, a Florida home remodeler and former federal housing agency director, as acting Director of National Intelligence, overseeing all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies. By law, the DNI must have significant intelligence experience. Pulte has none.
As acting DNI, Pulte can serve 270 days without Senate confirmation, covering the entire 2026 midterm election cycle. Hawk lays out three likely missions: expanding surveillance of Trump's political enemies, manufacturing evidence that the 2020 election was stolen, and using classified intelligence to interfere with the 2026 midterms on behalf of Republicans.
Pulte already weaponized his housing role to dig through the mortgage records of Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell, Letitia James, and a Federal Reserve board member in an attempt to fabricate fraud charges. Now he has access to the full intelligence apparatus of the United States government.
Trump removed Tulsi Gabbard because she lacked the competence to execute this agenda. Pulte brings the loyalty. Senate Republicans have signaled they won't confirm him, but that vote comes after the midterms.
