16:03Now PlayingHow did the Soviets conquer the eastern parts of Germany? How did the Eastern Front of WW2 end? In this video I'll discuss how the Soviets defeated the Germans at the Eastern Front of WWII. It started with the Soviet invasion of East Prussia that culminated in the Battle of Köningsberg. During the Vistula–Oder Offensive the Red Army overran huge parts of Poland and arrived at the Oder river. Was Berlin next? Not right away since the Red Army had to deal with its flanks north and south. The Siege of Breslau and attacks on Danzig and the coast followed. Germans tried to evacuate as many civilians as possible, because no German wanted to endure the revenge of the Red Army. When the flanks were secured the Battle of Berlin followed. It was the end of the Third Reich. World War II in Europa had come to an end.
