The liberation of the Netherlands was going on, while the allies set their first foot on the German homeland in the autumn of 1944. In WWII the western front started in France and ended in Germany. The allied conquest of Western Germany had begun. It kicked off with the Battle of Aachen followed by the gruelling Battle of Hürtgen Forest. Early 1945 the final assault on Germany was undertaken. After the Americans, the British and Canadians crossed the Rhine River most of Western Germany came under allied control quick. This is the story of how WW2 ended in the West of Germany. The end of the Western Front 1944-45.
