6:24Now PlayingThe Free India Legion (Legion Freies Indien) was also known as the Indian Legion (Indische Legion) or the 950th (Indian) Infantry Regiment. It was the brainchild of Subhas Chandra Bose, an Indian nationalist who hoped to set his country free from British rule. India in World War II saw Indians both fighting for the Allies and the Axis (albeit to a lesser extent). Chandra Bose also helped forming the Indian National Army in South-East Asia.
