as posted by the channelSometimes called the “Last Yugoslav War” the 2001 insurgency in Macedonia was a conflict between the government and ethnic Albanian insurgents seeking greater rights. The Albanian National Liberation Army (NLA) initiated the uprising, demanding equality for the Albanian minority in the Republic Macedonia (now: North Macedonia). The conflict escalated in the Tetovo and Kumanovo regions, leading to a precarious situation. International mediation efforts, notably by the EU and NATO, played a crucial role in brokering the Ohrid Agreement in August 2001. This agreement aimed at addressing Albanian grievances through political reforms, including increased minority representation and language rights. The accord quelled the violence and established a more inclusive political landscape. Despite the initial tensions, the 2001 insurgency ultimately paved the way for a more stable and harmonious coexistence between Macedonian and Albanian communities in the country.
In 2019 the name dispute with Greece was settled, resulting in the country's official renaming to North Macedonia.
