as posted by the channelWhen Nazi Germany conquered the Baltic States and parts of Belarus in 1941, Berlin did not see these territories as future allies or independent states. Instead, they were folded into a single colonial administration: Reichskommissariat Ostland. Ostland was designed to funnel food, raw materials, timber, and labour directly into the German war economy. Agriculture in the Baltics and manpower from Belarus were treated as complementary assets, best managed under one economic system rather than separate entities. Finally, colonial planning. Reichskommissariat Ostland was meant to be permanent. Under Generalplan Ost, millions were to be displaced or killed, while German settlers would reshape the region demographically and culturally. In short, Ostland was not a partnership, it was a blueprint for conquest, exploitation, and colonisation.
