U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been authorized to deport migrants to a “third country” — one to which they have no personal ties — with as little as six hours’ notice in so-called exigent circumstances. The policy, revived under the Trump administration, follows the Supreme Court’s recent approval of the controversial practice earlier this month. According to the Department of Homeland Security, the measure is aimed at accelerating removals during urgent situations, but immigrant rights advocates warn it raises serious human rights and due process concerns.
