10:23Now PlayingUS-Iran War: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a strong warning to US President Donald Trump on Monday, declaring that the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz remains open — but not for Iran’s enemies. Speaking at a press conference at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Tehran, Araghchi reiterated that the key maritime route is only restricted for vessels linked to the United States, Israel, and their allies.
“From our perspective, it is open,” Araghchi said, emphasizing that Iran is allowing normal passage but has closed the strait to what he called countries responsible for “unjust aggression” against Iran. “It is only closed to our enemies, to those who carried out unjust aggression against our country and to their allies,” he added.
Araghchi also dismissed reports claiming Iran had contacted Washington to seek an end to the conflict. He firmly stated that Tehran has not reached out to the U.S. government to stop the war. According to the Iranian foreign minister, the conflict must end in a way that prevents any future aggression against Iran.
“We are engaged in a proud resistance, and we will continue this resistance without any hesitation,” Araghchi said. While clarifying that Iran does not desire war, he stressed that Tehran would not accept a ceasefire unless it ensures that its adversaries will never again consider attacking the country.
“Our refusal to accept a ceasefire does not mean that we want war. Rather, this war must end in a way that ensures our enemies will never again consider such attacks,” he said.
Araghchi further claimed that the United States was growing increasingly desperate over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz — a crucial shipping lane through which nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply passes.
The comments come as U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly demanded that several countries deploy warships to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, as tensions escalate and Iranian strikes continue to target locations across the Gulf region.
