8:08Now PlayingRussia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov issued a stern warning to US President Donald Trump over the ongoing Middle East tensions. He blamed the United States and Israel for what he called an “unprecedented escalation” against Iran. Speaking alongside his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty, Lavrov asserted that Iran has been a victim of aggression and warned that ongoing military actions risk derailing fragile prospects for diplomacy.
Lavrov highlighted that both Russia and Egypt are calling for an immediate ceasefire and a return to political and diplomatic negotiations. He emphasised that stability in the Gulf depends on respecting the security interests of all countries.
Referring to recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, Lavrov noted claims that shipping in the Strait of Hormuz would resume once military objectives are achieved. However, he pushed back strongly, arguing that the real solution lies not in pressuring Iran, but in halting military operations altogether.
