11:13Now PlayingFrench President Emmanuel Macron talked about the ongoing Middle East conflict and the need to stabilise the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Macron made these remarks during his visit to South Korea. He said he discussed the Middle East at length with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and the scope of South Korea's involvement in helping to reopen the Hormuz Strait.
The escalating conflict in the Middle East has choked off shipping needing to traverse the strait, a key waterway through which roughly a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas exports normally flow. The effective closure of the strait has helped oil prices surge and raised concerns about supply shortages going forward.
