Speaking at the United Nations, China’s Permanent Representative Fu Cong stressed that the situation is rapidly becoming a major threat to international energy supplies and economic stability.
He emphasized that the immediate priority must be restoring stability in one of the world’s most critical energy corridors. According to Fu, “China’s view is that we need to open the Strait of Hormuz as quickly as possible,” urging both sides to act responsibly. He made it clear that Iran should lift its restrictions while the United States should end its naval blockade, stressing that continued disruption poses serious risks to global trade and energy security.
Fu Cong also voiced deep concern over recent rhetoric suggesting that the ceasefire may not hold. He warned against any return to conflict, stating, “We are very concerned about remarks… about the need to initiate another round of attack.” He called on the international community to step in and “raise our voices against the resumption of fighting,” highlighting the urgent need for diplomacy and restraint.
On U.S.-China relations, Fu indicated that the Hormuz crisis could become a central in upcoming high-level talks. He noted, “If the Hormuz is still closed by the time President Trump goes to China, this issue will be high on the agenda.” At the same time, he stressed that bilateral ties go far beyond a single issue, adding that “the world is big enough to accommodate both China and the United States” and that cooperation should replace zero-sum competition. He underscored the importance of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation as the foundation for stable relations.
