10:02Now PlayingDefendant Suzanne Mericle testified that she feared for her life as she stood outside a locked room, believing boyfriend James Barron might come out and harm or shoot her. She said she fired her gun, intending only to shoot the lock, not him, but realized something was wrong when she heard him gasp. After breaking into the room and finding him unresponsive, she called 911, attempted to stop the bleeding, and later described feeling overwhelming panic, guilt, and even briefly attempting to take her own life.
