Discussions are expected to focus on concerns that European allies are being sidelined from peace negotiations between Russia and the United States over the war in Ukraine.
According to The Times, Starmer is set to overrule his chancellor and push for increased defence spending in an effort to win favor with Donald Trump before heading to Washington to meet the president.
Downing Street has reiterated its commitment to boosting defence spending since Labour took power last year but has yet to outline a timeline for reaching its target of 2.5% of GDP.
This follows the PM’s warning of a “once in a generation moment for our national security” ahead of next week’s emergency summit.
